From my Steam review:
Door Kickers 2 is an outstanding modern combat tactical simulator. It reminds me of Rainbox Six: Rogue Spear's planning phase if it was done in 3rd person. I've had real life training in dynamic entry and hostage rescue (nothing extreme) and I feel this game captures the intensity of bounding cover, clearing rooms, push-pin-hold, etc. I wish this game existed back then for visual aids. You have to flow, set the proper fields of fire, and make sure you have all the angles covered. You can't rush it; this is a strategy game more than an action game and planning is pertinent. It's actually very relaxing as you can set all the actions up front then hit play and watch the magic happen, or you can hit pause every step of the way and regroup your thoughts. It's not perfect and it's still in early access. There's a couple of AI glitches, your troops get hung up, etc., but those are all minor issues. The AI responds well and some of them are deadly accurate. The boundaries set in the game are very realistic: explosives have splash damage, flashbangs don't have permanent effects, and ammo runs out. You can go in quiet with silenced MP5s or completely lay waste to the front of a building with grenade launchers and LMGs. Some maps are more of a puzzle with a specific element that needs to be addressed, but most of the maps are wide open on how you want to approach the problem. As of yet, the maps center around building interiors with small outdoor courtyards. I've only come across one open field scenario that involved a bridge (and it was a beeeeyotch). The graphics are perfect for a top-down view with vibrant colors and detailed environments. You can team up with a buddy and work together for twice the fun. This is a great game at a great price with an attentive dev team and new maps and features being added as we speak. Select your gear, plot your approach, and jump in the stack. Alpha, go!
