OK, finished the game today, 88.9 hours on Steam. Finished the main story, did all the wasteland missions, and cleared the map from threat. Still a ton of minor stuff left to clear, but I am not going to. Ending very dark as mentioned before, but I had fun. It's kinda weird, because this game is designed around a lot of stuff I usually hate (grinding, repetitive clearing of checkpoints on the map, enemy camps, and so on), but despite all of that, it's very enjoyable due to good basic mechanics (fun combat, driving models), interesting setting, decent writing (it's not that it has a great story but that it stays away from the flowery drivel of typical video game writing), and the way it hooks the grind into constant upgrades for the car or your character. Final screenshots of the final version of Magnum Opus (mostly stuck with Argent Cavalier archangel, but changed the paint job to Gold Tar, and removed spikes from tires):

That's awesome, man. I did one similar but in black. I didn't like how they handled the mend notification telling you you still have access to the open world. "Chum's back" and other stuff just killed the immersion for me. Either make it where Chum didn't die and Max didn't leave or hand over a new character to finish the world out.

Yeah, the car is back too, and I even got a mission from Hope afterwards (that I guess I didn't finish before). Also funny how they give you Max's iconic leather jacket from the movies and his 2 barrel sawn off after the last mission. But whatever, small nitpicks, fun romp overall. Apparently Avalanche Studios was working on a sequel before the pandemic, but seems to have fizzled out or something, as now they are working on a smuggling co-op sim: www.gamesradar.com/contraband-guide/The co-op thing kills my interest as I generally prefer either single player or MMO type games, but good luck to them.

I randomly bought a PS4 about 7 years ago (ouch gross) and grabbed Mad Max just as a something to do game since everything was either on older consoles or not yet released, like zero research almost like renting a movie you know nothing about I was like if its trash I'll return it. I absolutely loved it. Such a great game and does a great job just being itself. Reminded me of Twisted Metal back in the day with a mix of melee and awesome vehicle customization. A great game that should have gotten a ton more publicity IMO!

Yeah, I agree. I think what makes it weird for everyone is when you first fire it up, it just screams Ubisoft game vibes. Happened to me, happened to that WAB guy on youtube. Oh great, another game with 4,000,000 checkpoints to clear, towers (balloons), the grind (scrap), and so on. But if you play through that, it becomes undeniably fun to most people (90+% positive on Steam I think). They just did a really good job with gameplay mechanics (fighting, driving, fighting while driving, finding stuff), and the with the setting and story being what it is, the grind/clearance of map makes more sense than in some of the Ubisoft games, at least imo. Also the way the grind (getting scrap) is linked to constant RPG-like improvements (car improvements, Max improvements).

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is there no sequel? Why? Why why why? 20 Assassin's creed games but only one Mad Max. Argh.

Yeah, it's weird, everyone who played it liked it, but instead of a sequel, they went with some co-op smuggling game.
Same thing with Days Gone, everyone who played it liked it, but apparently they didn't make enough money on it, so no sequel so far either.
