So to be clear I've been back a little while but been focusing on the kids and life and trying to maintain sanity from work but I'm slowly creeping back into a semi-normalcy.
So I went out in September 2022 sailed to Halifax and the U.K. and came home right after Thanksgiving. Was home for Christmas, went back out in February, was gone all of March at sea, took a couple weeks of leave in April and deployed May 2nd. Went to Norway, Croatia, Athens, Turkey, Italy (Trieste thank goodness it wasn't Sicily or Naples again), visited Slovenia from there and the day before France (with my planned Monaco excursion) Hamas did its attack on Israel. 3 extensions and 2 port visits in Crete later got home late January of this year so May 2023 to January 2024 gone. In the last 720 days I was gone about 450 out to sea with 290ish being consecutive. Seeing all those countries was great though, Norway I am definitely going back to, such a friendly, clean and safe environment, absolutely loved it but didn't see much of the natural beauty that I wanted. Croatia for food and sight seeing, Dubrovnik (Kings Landing from GoT is filmed here) was amazing!
We went to the Arctic circle so I got my Blue Nose (Sailor stuff) and passed the rock of Gibraltar twice. Spent some time with Norwegian Special Forces (FSK) and they even gave me a plaque and gifts which they had to do on the down low since they didn't give anything to the big wigs haha! Spent some time on the USS RAMAGE and a Turkish Frigate which was actually one of the biggest surprises for how welcoming and friendly everyone was and the food/coffee was on the next level!
This year I will be working non stop to get the ship and my department ready for the next deployment and will be gone off and on starting in July until when I leave sometime next year hopefully before Spring. I have verbal so not written in stone orders to D.C. which should take me to retirement. Needless to say I am nervous about it being too good to be true but we shall see. I am becoming eligible for promotion next year hopefully and got ranked as the number 1 LT on the ship out of 64 which means promotion could quickly be in my future, however if I don't get it quickly I will have to painfully decline it as it could extend my retirement date should I accept it beyond the next year or 2. I can't really think of what else to ramble about but if any of you guys have any questions about anything, job, ship, deployment, anything let me know! Glad to be back and hope you all are doing well!
