We watched The Night Manager over the weekend. Suffice to say, we were entertained.
Tonight we are continuing our runthrough of GoT. Still, only around mid 3rd season, so a way to go still.

Just finished Season 4 of GoT. So, halfway there. I have been watching True Detective as well, since I am house- and dog-sitting this week for my mother and brother. Currently about mid-way through the 2nd Season.

Let me know how it goes. I was kinda interested at first, since I did enjoy the Witcher series very much, but man, when I saw Henry Cavill, lost enthusiasm. He looked like a modern bodybuilder, when Geralt was notoriously wiry. Makes it look very fake and corny.

Not fake, not corny at all. Veeeeeeery good show. The writing is very good and the acting is superb. Love the setting, very good visual effects. Exciting plot movements. Fun recognizing references from the games (I haven't read the books, but I'm going to soon). Very thoughtful conversations, like the games.
Couple small complaints. They rushed the exposition so it can be VERY hard to follow at the beginning. Even though I was very familiar with the characters and setting, I still had to go look things up to try and figure them out. Somebody without that familiarity is likely to be completely befuddled and just have to muddle through until it starts to make sense. It does start to make sense but it takes awhile. For example (extremely mild spoiler but not a big deal) you learn late in the second episode that you're actually watching two different timelines (and you might miss the clue if you're not thinking about it). And then in the third episode, they finally give the clue showing you're actually watching a THIRD timeline, and over the rest of the season they slowly converge.
Other thing is that it's hard to understand at times. Geralt gravels constantly of course, but other characters have really thick accents.

My wife and I blew through the series in a couple of days and we absolutely loved it. I do NOT get all the critic hate but these are the same people that gave the last Star Wars a 9 and this current one a 6. Go figure. I have the same complaint about the timeline sequencing. It wasn't until episode 4 that it was evident the two POV's you were watching were not happening at the same time and when they did converge, all it did was add confusion. I get what they were trying to do but I felt it was poorly handled.
I like how they're using the game for art direction but the books for plotting. If you'll notice, there are very few special effects in the show and even fewer CGI incidents. This being a first season, Netflix was understandably conservative with the show's budget and I'd say the producers did a great job with how it was spent. There is so much more that went into the story than 5-minute contract montages. Great stuff.

Made a separate thread for Star Wars in case anyone wants to expand, but I just want to say here I loved the movie and you should go see it without listening to critics. Just go.

Yeah I liked how magic things were fairly subtle in Witcher. You don't need tons of CGI.
I agree not to care what critics think. I thought SW9 was an pretty much a nonsensical mess of a movie. Basically an entire movie of poorly-thought-out reasons to put people in situations to have very cool battles. SW8 I thought had some of the same problems the entire sequel trilogy has had (deciding to make lightspeed travel basically instantaneous became a pathetic crutch for the writers), but did so many thematic elements better than 7 or 9.

See I'm so totally on the opposite end. 8, to me, was so very bad that I just wave it off as if it never happened and run the story from 7 to 9 in my head. The lightspeed stuff has never been an issue to me when you remember this is Science Fantasy, not Science Fiction. If we were supposed to play by the proper rules of physics then ep 4 wouldn't have taken place beyond Tatooine.

In Denmark we are getting closer to the end of GoT. Currently on S7E5. We have already begun pondering what to watch next.

Yeah, I actually ended up watching The Witcher earlier than I thought I would, watched the whole first season last week. I also enjoyed it. Decent action, good humor.

I need to pick Taboo back up. The wife didn't want to watch it so we let it go. I liked it much more than Penny Dreadful (really bad writing in that one).
If you can pull up older series, definitely hit Deadwood, Rome, and Carnival. I've talked about them ad nauseum elsewhere but they are to this day my favorite series'.

We have finished Witcher (awesome), The Expanse S4 (it's good but I drifted off), and Lost in Space S2 (meh). Now diving into Dracula on Netflix. I'll be back to complain about it later.
